Title of Subject: Backhoe-Fixed Last Reviewed Date: November 2015 SAFE WORK INSTRUCTIONS The following safe work instructions is NOT INTENDED to replace hands on training requirements of the code of federal regulations. The intent is to provide an overview of known potential safety hazards associated with equipment operation. Hands on training with an experienced operator on each specific model must be conducted. The trainee can not proceed onto production until they are determined ready to proceed by the supervisor of the training. Before any operation or maintenance procedure is performed with or on this equipment, it is important that personnel have a complete understanding of the location and functions of all controls and indicators, as well as, the location and use of all emergency shutdown controls and procedures Steps for Initial SWI Training: Prepare – Review the SWI. Present – Quick Card at the machine with experienced operator. Tryout – Person performs the task with supervision. Follow up – Competency points are verified by supervisor and is signed by the trainee/trainer to complete the training. Title: Backhoe-Fixed SAFE WORK INSTRUCTIONS KEY POINTS SAFETY PRECAUTIONS Pre-ops/Parameters: Examine the workplace for loose materials in the roof and ribs. Examine the walkways for potential slipping/tripping hazards. Check the breaker and cable for damage or defects and proper identification. Maintain equipment free from accumulations of combustible materials. (Coal fines/dust, grease, oil and paper). Test all levers and switches to ensure proper operation. Test the emergency stops and panic bars to ensure proper operation. Inspect connections hydraulic and structural. Ensure that the audible alarm is operational. Scale loose roof and ribs as necessary. Remove potential slipping/tripping hazards prior to beginning task. Breaker cable and receptacle must have matching identification tags. Levers and switches must not stick and must center when released. Ensure all guards are in place. Tramming: Prior to starting the machine sound the audible alarm to alert others in the area of intended start-up. Make certain that the cables and hoses are free to move with the machine. Ensure that all persons are in the clear prior to starting machine. Use proper body positioning while tramming and operating machine. Operating Controls/Loading Materials Onto Belt: Ensure that the belt is running prior to loading material onto the belt. Make certain that all persons are in the clear prior to operating bucket. Deactivation: Return backhoe to normal position. Push in emergency stop button to de-energize controls. Lockout the disconnect on the hydraulic system. Test the controls to make certain that operating capabilities are disabled.
