Objectives 1. Differentiate between round, flat, static and dynamic characters in Fahrenheit 451. 2. Apply major plot terms to Sections one and two of Fahrenheit 451. 3. summarize sections of part two of Fahrenheit 451; pick out 4-5 essential quotes for part two 4. Read pages of Fahrenheit 451.

Characterization: The way an author builds a character
There are different categories/ways to describe characters: Round/Flat Static/Dynamic

Round vs. Flat Characters
More fully developed and described Have multiple sides to their character (can be complicated) Realistic and life-like Not easily defined because we know so many details about the character. “capable of surprising the audience in a convincing way” (E.M. Forster) Not well-developed Easily defined in a single sentence because we know little about the character Sometimes stereotyped Round Characters Flat Characters

Static vs. Dynamic Characters
Dynamic = moving Experience changes throughout the plot of a narrative. Sometimes change is gradual, sometimes it is sudden. (Usually round characters) Static = not moving Stay the same throughout the course of the narrative (Usually flat characters) Dynamic Characters Static Characters
