True or false? There are approximately 100,000 young carers in England
Although it was found 166,363 young carers in England, according to latest census data released on 16 May 2013, research conducted for the BBC in 2010 suggested that there might be four times as many. In Surrey it is estimated that there are 14,000 young carers.

In fact 66% of young carers care for a parent. 31 percent care for a sibling, 3% cared for their grandparents and 1% cared for wider family or community members. Source: The Children’s Society ‘Hidden from View’, 2013 Figures taken from C Dearden and S Becker ‘Young Carers in the UK: The 2004 Reoprt A 2013 US study looking at the siblings of disabled children found that they are 3 times more likely to have significant levels of problems in interpersonal relationships, their psychological wellbeing, school performance or use of leisure compared to other siblings.
