MSCA-ETN REDMUD PROJECT
RECOVERY OF SELECTED RARE EARTHS FROM BAUXITE RESIDUE BY DRY DIGESTION WITH MULTI-STAGE CIRCULATION OF LEACH LIQUOR MSCA-ETN REDMUD PROJECT Rodolfo Marin Rivera, Brecht Ulenaers, Ghania Ounoughene, Koen Binnemans, Tom Van Gerven BR 2018, 9th May

High silica dissolution can lead to silica gel formation.
Dry digestion method avoids the dissolution of amorphous silica. Silicate minerals are contacted with strong acids in a water-deficient system that avoid silica polymerization. Si: < 5 wt.% Sc: wt.% REEs: 6-8 mg/L
3
REEs recovery by dry digestion method with multi-stage circulation of acid leaching solution
Concentration of REEs is 3-4 times higher compared to direct leaching without dry digestion. Reduction by 60% The method allows a reduction of 60% in water consumption
