1 Welcome! March 13th, 2018 Tuesday
Do Now Get out your weekly Bell Ringer sheet and begin working on Tuesday’s assignment. Once the bell rings, you will have five minutes to guess the meaning of the word. Make sure you explain your thinking! Remember: Do Now's are INDEPENDENT and QUIET exercises. Thank you 

2 James is known in his town for his prowess on the football field.

3 Allegory Charts What do you think?
Get our your Allegory Charts from yesterday! We’re going to go over the one term we were able to find… Soviet Flag What do you think?

4 Allegory Chart – Chapter 1
Term Definition Symbolism in AF Soviet Flag Red = the blood of the people; hammer = industrial workers; sickle = farm workers; star = Communism Horn and Hoof Flag - green = the fields; white hoof and horn = the animal Republic

5 Animal Farm – Chapter 4 Today, we’re going to start reading the fourth chapter of Animal Farm – just the first page, and then we’ll stop to do an activity. Feel free to annotate as we read – it’ll help you on our final test  No terms in our allegory chart for this chapter! We’re going to do something else instead…

6 The Red Scare Let’s learn a bit about the Red Scare…

7 The Red Scare To get a better understanding of The Red Scare, we’re going to do a little activity today… I’m going to choose three leaders of three different farms: the Germany Farm, the Great Britain Farm, and the United States Farm. Who’s feeling presidential today? Next, I’m going to pass out a slip of paper. It is crucial that you don’t let anyone else see your paper. If you do, you’re out of the game and you can’t get any bonus points!

8 The Red Scare Presidents – you’re going to stand in opposite corners of the room. It is your job to let people into your country… However, you must NOT let any communists in! Communists, it is your job to sneak into a country undetected. Convince the president of your innocence. Non-communists, it is your job to convince a president of your innocence – but remember, showing your slip of paper is prohibited! If you cannot convince any president to let you in their country, stand in the middle of the room and try to convince someone to change their mind. At the end of the game, the country with the highest number of non-communists wins (and gets some extra credit). 

9 Animal Farm – Chapter Four
For the rest of the day, you have two jobs: Finish Chapter Four of Animal Farm and annotate as you read. You need at least two sentences per annotation, and at least two annotations per page. Continue your IXL for the week: F.11 and F.12
