1 10 Kilogram Payload Robotic Platform
P08201: RP10 Motor Module/Platform Redesign The goal of this project is to construct a land-based robotic platform for the Vehicle Systems Technology Track. This 10 kg platform is just one of a family of scalable platforms ranging from 1kg to 100kg. This project focuses on improving previous projects from the 7200 family, which fall short of expected outcomes. The re-designed platform is to be modular, open architecture, open source, scalable, and fully instrumented robotic/remote controlled, for use in a variety of education, R & D, and outreach applications within and beyond the RIT KGCOE. P08201 Project Mission Statement Dave Ng………………………………………CE – Microcontroller Lead Del Hirpa…………………………………ME – Mechanical Support Oliver Yuen……………………………EE – Wireless Communications Lead Jacob Hillmon………………………EE – Power Electronics Lead Chris Feuerstein………………EE – Engineer/Electrical Lead Mike Schwec……………………………EE – H-Bridge Lead Dan Lester………………………………IE – Project Manager Huan Yu-Chen…………………………ME – Mechanical Lead The Team Must be able to carry a payload of 10 kg Must be capable of manual control and autonomous navigation Must use interchangeable motor modules to be swapped in 120 s Must re-use as many parts from previous designs as possible Must autonomously navigate to a user specified coordinate Must be able to be scaled up or down in size and payload Must be open source for future senior design projects Must have zero turning radius Customer Needs and Specifications Concept Generation Mechanical Concept Selection A quantitative comparison of each design concept was conducted, and the final concept was selected… Microprocessor and Wireless Selection Electrical Selection Engineering Analysis Final Design Stress Analysis Step-Down Voltage Simulation Finite Element Analysis Conclusions Communication Flow Diagram System Diagram Project team under budget by $1700 All electronics are open source All electronics are very robust Wireless range: 20 – 30 m (indoors) Future Work: Electronics and batteries reduced in size Implement autonomous navigation RP-10 Platform RP-10 Electronics RP-10 with >10 kg payload The members of P08201 would like to thank Dresser Rand for sponsoring the project, as well as the following individuals for their help and guidance throughout the project: Dr. Wayne Walter, Erin Gillespie, Dave Hathaway, Steve Kosciol, Rob Kraynik, Fei Hu, Jay Yang, Kenneth Hsu, Chris Fisher, RP1 Team December 7, 2018
