Methods to Gain Votes Direct Mail: reaching large groups of people through the mail (snail mail) Media: TV, radio, newspaper, magazines, internet

4 Interest Groups Interest groups distribute mail and media ads to help elect the candidate they agree with. Ex: Vote for Joe Schmo because he supports gun rights!! PAC’s (Political Action Committees) Groups that promote their members’ interests in state and national politics (often by using $$$)

Message meant to influence people’s opinions in a certain way Bias Message that favors only one point of view

10 How the Electoral College Works
Electors: people who promise to vote for the candidate selected by the voters from their state Each state has the same number of electors as it has members of Congress. Ex: Iowa has 5 representatives and 2 senators. Ex: Iowa has 7 electoral college voters. The Electoral College has 538 electors total. Candidate needs 270 or more electoral votes to win.
