2 You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free
You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.

3 For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbour as yourself.” If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other.

4 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh.

5 They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

6 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like.

7 I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

8 Against such things there is no law
Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

9 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit
Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other. Galatians 5:13-26

13 I wear the chain I forged in life
I wear the chain I forged in life...I made it link by link, and yard by yard; I girded it on of my own free-will, and of my own free-will I wore it.

15 It is obvious what kind of life develops out of trying to get your own way all the time: repetitive, loveless, cheap sex; a stinking accumulation of mental and emotional garbage;

16 frenzied and joyless grabs for happiness; trinket gods; magic-show-religion; paranoid loneliness; cutthroat competition; all-consuming-yet-never-satisfied wants; a brutal temper;

17 an impotence to love or be loved; divided homes and divided lives; small-minded and lopsided pursuits; the vicious habit of depersonalising everyone into a rival;

18 uncontrolled and uncontrollable addictions; ugly parodies of community
uncontrolled and uncontrollable addictions; ugly parodies of community. I could go on.

20 Cheap grace is the grace we bestow upon ourselves
Cheap grace is the grace we bestow upon ourselves. Cheap grace is the preaching of forgiveness without requiring repentance, baptism without Church discipline, communion without confession...

21 Cheap grace is grace without discipleship, grace without the cross, grace without Jesus Christ, living and incarnate. Dietrich Bonhoeffer

23 He who is enslaved to the compass has the freedom of the seas.
