Atomic weight Atomic number is the number of protons in the nucleus of an atom. Atomic weight is the average atomic mass for the naturally occurring element, expressed in atomic mass units.

Metals, Nonmetals and Metalloids
A metal is a substance or mixture that has a characteristic luster or shine and is a good conductor of heat and electricity. A nonmetal is an element that does not exhibit the characteristics of a metal. A metalloid, or semimetal, is an element having both metallic and nonmetallic properties.
