2
MITOSIS Cell Division for Growth
3
Mitosis All the cells DNA is found in the cell nucleus in structures called chromosomes
4
When cells divide, the chromosomes appear, divide and separate
Mitosis When cells divide, the chromosomes appear, divide and separate
5
Two new cells form with identical chromosomes to the original cell
Mitosis Two new cells form with identical chromosomes to the original cell
6
Here are the main cell parts involved in mitosis-
Centrioles Cell Membrane Nucleolus Chromatin network Nuclear Envelope
7
MITOSIS can be divided into FIVE different stages:
Interphase Prophase Metaphase Anaphase Telophase
8
Remember the sequence IPMAT IInterphase PProphase MMetaphase AAnaphase TTelophase
9
DNA replication occurs
MITOSIS – Interphase- This is the phase in between the cell dividing. DNA replication occurs
10
Chromosomes line up SINGLE FILE
7 MITOSIS – Metaphase - Chromosomes line up SINGLE FILE at the Equator
11
8 MITOSIS – Anaphase- Double stranded Chromosomes split to form TWO single stranded chromosomes
12
Single stranded chromosomes move to opposite poles
9 MITOSIS – Anaphase Single stranded chromosomes move to opposite poles
13
MITOSIS Original Cell Divides to form TWO new cells with the SAME number of chromosomes
