Good Morning, Greetings… Series of lessons based in “The Study On Morals & Ethics.”
9
Divorce & Remarriage Part Three
10
MDR Arguments: Virtue Ethics
11
MDR Arguments: Virtue Ethics “The primary difference between virtue ethics and other models is the question asked. ‘For traditional duty-based ethics the question is: What should I do? For virtue ethics the question is: What sort of person should I become?’”
12
MDR Arguments: Virtue Ethics “The basic idea is that ethics should not be about applying endless rules to hypothetical scenarios. Instead, virtue ethics takes the long view of human life…The ethically right choice in any situation is the one that contributes to that path, one that makes you more virtuous.”
13
MDR Arguments: Virtue Ethics “Approaching Jesus’ teachings on divorce from the perspective of Christian virtue ethics demonstrates that a person in a second marriage should not divorce to avoid adultery, but rather should stay faithful to their current marriage to cultivate the virtue of fidelity.”
14
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 7:21 ESV
15
“For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.”
Matthew 12:50 ESV
16
“If you love me, you will keep my commandments.”
John 14:15 ESV
17
“The one who rejects me and does not receive my words has a judge; the word that I have spoken will judge him on the last day.” John 12:48 ESV
18
“If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us…10 If we say we have not sinned, we make [God] a liar, and his word is not in us.” 1 John 1:8,10 ESV
19
“Everyone who makes a practice of sinning also practices lawlessness; sin is lawlessness.”
1 John 3:4 ESV
20
“God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”
John 4:24 ESV
21
MDR Arguments: Virtue Ethics
22
MDR Arguments: Baptism
23
MDR Arguments: Baptism “With baptism washing away all sin and Paul teaching that ‘each one should remain in the condition in which he was called’ then any marriage is sanctified through baptism no matter its previous state.”
24
“And now why do you wait? Rise and be baptized and wash away your sins, calling on his name.”
Acts 22:16 ESV
25
“And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins…” Acts 2:38 ESV
26
“Only let each person lead the life that the Lord has assigned to him, and to which God has called him. This is my rule in all the churches. 18 Was anyone at the time of his call already circumcised? Let him not seek to remove the marks of circumcision. Was anyone at the time of his call uncircumcised? Let him not seek circumcision. 19 For neither circumcision counts for anything nor uncircumcision, but keeping the commandments of God. 20 Each one should remain in the condition in which he was called.” 1 Corinthians 7:17-20 ESV
27
“…Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, 47 and that repentance and forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem.” Luke 24:46-47 ESV
28
“And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. 16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.” Mark 16:15-16 ESV
29
“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you…” Matthew 28:19-20 ESV
30
“And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins…” Acts 2:38 ESV
31
“For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted…”
2 Corinthians 7:10 NKJV
32
“Therefore produce fruit worthy of repentance!”
Matthew 3:8 LEB
