2 iRegister 2016: #HCSReachingHigher Is the Annual Huntsville City Schools Registration Fair for Middle and High School Students and Parents Theme: #HCSReachingHigher Date: Saturday, February 27, 2016 Time: 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Location: Von Braun Center North Hall Target Audience: Parents and Students in rising grades 6-12 Goal: Huntsville City Schools strives to prepare students to be college and career ready upon graduation from high school. In order to be college and career ready, course planning and selection is a critical piece of the puzzle. The i Register Fair will provide students and parents with the tools, information, and guidance to make informed course selections that lead to a desired career path and college and career readiness and transition to the next grade level.

3 During the iRegister Event, Informational Sessions Will Be Held for Parents/Guardians to Discuss Grade Level Expectations 6th Grade – Navigating the 6th Grade (Middle School) Galaxy 7th Grade - Preparing for the Return of the 7th Grade Jedi 8th Grade - The Force Awakens in 8th Grade 9th Grade – Hello, Calling All Freshman! 10th Grade – Justin Time to Make Swift Plans for Your Sophomore Year 11th Grade – Juniors, Don’t Be Stressed Out, You’ve Got This! 12th Grade – Making the Most Our of My Senior Year: That’s My Fight Song!

4 iRegister Sessions Will Also Provide Information Regarding Honors and Advanced Placement Course Offerings AP/Honors: Someone Like You Would Make a Great AP/Honors Student AVID: Advancement Via Individual Determination) Begins With Me! College Choices: Tall, Grande or Venti? Each session is 30 minutes and will be repeated 2 times. AP/Honors session will be repeated 4 times. Grade level sessions will provide students and parents with: Course options and graduation requirements for each grade level Advanced Placement and Honors Opportunities Outline of College and Career Readiness Activities

5 Career Readiness and Magnet Programs Will Share Additional Course Offerings for HCS Students
Magnet Programs: They’re Attractive Don’t Miss a Game: Learn About High School and College Eligibility New Century Technology High School: Check Us Out (2 sessions - rising 8th & 9th grade) Career Tech Pathway: Walk This Way Freshman Fifteen: Top 15 Success Strategies for Freshman Students and Parents

6 HCS Career Readiness Programs Will Have Career Academy Exhibits for iRegister Attendees to Visit, Collect Career Academy Information, and Talk with a Career Academy Representative from Each Career Academy Career Academies Advanced Manufacturing (Drafting Design) Biomedical Sciences Building Sciences Computer Sciences (Cyber Security) Computer Sciences (Entertainment Technology) Culinary Arts Esthetics and Spa Management Heavy Equipment Operation JROTC – Army JROTC – Air Force Microsoft IT Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Engineering Precision Machining Television Production (A/V Arts and Communication)

7 HCS Department Exhibits Will Offer Informational Flyers about Course Offerings, Support Services, and Resources Available to HCS Students Advanced Placement and Honors Courses Freshman Academy Magnet Programs International Baccalaureate/Magnet Programs School Counseling Kiosks to support students and parents with registration questions/changes Federal Programs School Readiness Secondary Programs Extracurricular Activities (each high school) Networked Learning Information Technology – Help Desk Military Child Education Coalition

8 College and Community Partners Exhibits Will Share Resources and Opportunities Available for Students. Colleges and Universities Local State Regional Community Agencies and Partners Tutoring Community Centers Youth Programs Local Programs and Opportunities Summer programs Volunteer opportunities Employment opportunities

Transportation will be provided from Columbia, Grissom, Huntsville, Johnson, Lee/New Century Technology High Schools 2000 parking spaces available in municipal parking garage and lot
