1 Standards Based Grading
Cummings High School Standards Based Grading Policy

2 What is Standards Based Grading?
Standards Based Grading (SBG) is a grading method that measures a student's progress by their mastery of the content or skill. The skill or learning objective are specific to each course that your student is taking (with a teacher using this grading method). The skills that a student has not mastered can be reassessed during learning center or a scheduled tutoring time. Reassessments allow for the student to try again to demonstrate their understanding.

3 How is my student’s grade calculated?
Category Description Can I reassess? Examples Mastery Checkpoints (Standards) - 90% Assignments that require students to show mastery of standards Yes Quizzes/Tests Essay Lab Report Learning Tasks - 10% HW, CW, anything that is graded on a point scale. Tasks that work towards mastery, but are not practice No HW assignment Rough Draft Analysis Questions Practice Not graded but tracked to assess student progress; allows a student to see how they would perform on a Performance task Exit Tickets Whiteboard Presentations

4 Mastery Checkpoints are graded using the following scale:
Performance Indicator What does that mean? Grade Equivalent 4: Mastered Student meets all expectations of course standard and proves mastery in understanding standard/learning target. A - 100 3: Almost Mastered Student has met most of the expectations of course standard, but has made minor errors in demonstrating mastery. B - 80 2: Partially Mastered Student has met very few of the expectations of course standard and needs to work towards mastery. D - 65 1: Not Yet Mastered Student has not met the expectations of course standard and needs to work towards mastery. F - 50 0: No Evidence or Missing Student has not provided any responses or work from which a judgment can be made on their understanding or mastery. F - 40 Mastery Checkpoints are graded using the following scale:

5 What does it look like in Powerschool for each assignment?

6 Focus on Tracking Mastery of Standards!
To access this screen from Powerschool: Click on ‘Quick Lookup - Standards’ This screen can only be accessed by computer or web browser. It is unavailable in the Powerschool App

7 How to Reassess a Standard:
Track your mastery of each standard by viewing your Powerschool account (Quick Lookup - Standards) and your data tracker Complete a calendar of completion (instructions listed on the next slide) Demonstrate that you have re-learned the material or skill for that specific standard Complete practice activities (or other activities discussed with your teacher) and schedule your reassessment Reassess at your scheduled time

8 Example 1) Label each day with the date
2) Write a list of tasks and/or practice activities that you will complete each day in order to prepare to reassess 3) Each box represents a day of the week that you can complete tasks for reassessments 4) Write down the standard(s) that you need to reassess, if you are unsure, just ask me prior to turning in your calendar 5) Reflect on what mistakes you made on the previous assessment and/or why you were unable to demonstrate mastery Remember, you must wait 2 Class Days to reassess! 1/18 1/19 Example Practice activity from 1/12 Create vocabulary flashcards Reassessment 3:30 PM - Room 239 1/22
