Taxed all paper products colonists used Newspapers, paper, playing cards, envelopes, legal documents, pamphlets, etcs First DIRECT tax on colonists Problems Many businesses go under Parliament did not expect resistance Act is repealed in 1766 But not before passing the Declaratory Acts Parliament can make any laws they want

5 Townshend Acts 1767 More taxes on goods Boycotts once again
Glass, lead, paint, tea, paper, etc Boycotts once again Sons of Liberty led the way Attacks on custom houses forced British to send troops to Boston
