Participants will examine how early educators’ intentional and non-intentional language and actions matter when seeking to partner with young children’s families Participants will enhance their understanding of the value and importance of family partnerships

Words have value and power Value and power of words are influenced by our culture, beliefs, and experiences Choice of words creates intentional and/or unintentional rules Word Sort Handout with additional titles to think about in individual work places

From Family Engagement to Family Partnership
Think for a minute about what comes to mind when you consider the term “Family Engagement.” Write down some words, phrases and thoughts. Now take a minute to think about what comes to mind when you consider the term “Family Partnership.” Write down some words, phrases and thoughts. Share at your tables your thoughts and what differences might be made for the school, community providers, families and children if a stance of family partnerships were developed.
