Calligraphy is the form of writing which developed in Ancient China.

Royal priests and Kings in Ancient China asked questions to the ancestors and gods on bones, called Oracle bones.  The scratches on these bones are the first evidence of Chinese writing.
Calligraphy has also been found on pottery and bronze from the Shang Period.

People in Ancient China spoke many different languages, but had one form of writing.
Written language allowed people who spoke different languages to communicate.
