Mental Health Initiative Goals & Progress
Organize multidisciplinary coalition of stakeholders, including CCS client & family representatives Map the Mental Health service system, identify gaps & barriers Develop system improvement recommendations Identify Mental Health providers’ experience with & interest in serving CCS clients and their families, provide needed training, build capacity Identify & address Mental Health provider billing & reimbursement issues specific to CCS

What We’ve Learned CCS clients aren’t consistently asked about/screened for Mental Health needs CCS families aren’t asked about/screened for Mental Health needs CCS children & youth & their families’ Mental Health needs are individual, varied, may be complex, & call for a continuum of services

What We’ve Learned (continued)
CCS clients who successfully accessed Mental Health services generally had CCS, Family Resource Navigators and/or other navigational assistance The Medi-Cal Mental Health system directs clients with “mild to moderate” needs to Managed Care Plans – clients generally are not able to access care, providers aren’t available The Medi-Cal Mental Health system directs clients with “moderate to severe” needs to Alameda County Behavioral Health Care Services – clients generally are able to access care, at various settings

Next Steps Sustain and build on the momentum and progress of the Mental Health Initiative Join in statewide convening regarding children with medical complexity and Mental Health needs
