1 LonMark, Open Standard, Smart Cities
Let recap for a moment and kind of sum-up what we’re saying: Why LON instead of other protocols? The clearest reason is its presence, its ubiquity: with nearly 100 million devices, it has the backing and immediate—today—presence that many supporters of other protocols only dream of achieving. Why does it have such a presence? Because LON isn’t focused on a narrow segment of the controls industry. It is designed to be very specific to control functions—irrespective of industry. That means it isn’t subject to narrow definitions of data types and context. Likewise, it isn’t subject to the damage that ensues from cyclical ups and downs within industry segments. That is, when the Home market sours, LON is still supported by the many developers within the Buildings market, the Industrial markets, the Transportation markets, the Security markets, and so on. Lastly, the technology is proven and standardized. It’s open and implemented throughout the world in a myriad of applications.
