Important ETS4 novelties!
ETS4 - Facts & Figures Important ETS4 novelties! 1. It’s EASY! Lowering the threshold for newcomers with a new ETS4 user interface! Easy ETS project setup/ project creation wizards for KNX newcomers Better user interface, faster access to common functions 2. It’s FAST! ETS4 speeds up project workflow and data exchange Project and product data import is at least twice faster Increased workflow efficiency from project creation up to download 3. It’s OPEN! ETS4 allows access to import/ export data, even at runtime Access to in-/ export data via XML based exchange format New “add in” interface allows access to ETS4 data, even at runtime

The details…

ETS4 Improvements: Overview
User Interface (previous slides) Data Exchange: XML (previous slides) Database: Change without Closing Central Repository (Server) Automated Backup … Project: Project Files: store & attach non-ETS data (CAD) Project Log: Descriptions + Titles/Headers Free Group Address Structure (+ full 16 bit range) Embedded Parameter Dialog Dynamic Folders Automatic update: completely new concept, although – is of course already known from MS but now also for ETS4 Condition = internet connectivity Can of course be suppressed/disabled Rest = summary, details in next slides. Database: Change: more convenient (less cumbersome) Server: sever users can edit, possible to see who did what or even which user is currently doing what (project = checked out) Automated: tell ETS what to do before closing down XML: ETS data is directly accessible, makes KNX even more open, typically visualization Project: Project files: CAD drawings, manuals, etc – possibility to add (compress), delete, view (extract) files specifically linked to a project Project Log: Detailed log descriptions Free GA structure: GA = 16 bit (in ETS3 this is 15 bit unless with a specific registry setting) -> some projects require a finer granularity than 2 or 3 levels Embedded parameter dialog: it’s really only 1 click away, it’s even possible to open >1 at the same time Dynamic folders: remember one of previous slides or later during the demo Shows item based on Filter criteria Nearly free listing of window content Can be stored (filter criteria included) UI: improved workflow (intuitive)

Improvements: Database
Change Database without closing ETS Most of out customers use just one db for all their project and if we’re lucky they even make a backup But some use a db per project/year or even month – switching from on db to the other is very common database change can be done directly in the ETS4 user interface in ETS3 this operation requires a close and restart of the software this makes switching to other projects obviously much faster database change can be done directly via the ETS4 user interface in ETS3 this operation requires a close and restart of the software this makes switching to other projects obviously much faster
7
Improvements: Database
Central Database Repository some KNX projects, especially big and/or constantly increasing (growing) ones, require a specific work schedule the possibility to store ETS4 projects on a central server repository is a big workflow optimization several users can access the projects, but not at the same time a project gets the status “checked out” once it is accessed, the other users can see by whom with ETS3 the only way to define editing rules, was via direct contact (conversation) among/between the user ETS4 can open projects from a central server repository workflow optimization: >1 user can access projects once accessed, project status = “Checked out to” user = “XYZ”
8
Improvements: Database
Automated Backup making data backups is a re-occurring task in any IT or IT-related department. ETS4 optimizes this task by offering the possibility to do this: manually: during project edit automatically: as user request when closing ETS4 ETS4 offers two ways to create backups: manually: during project edit automatically: as user request when closing ETS4
9
Improvements: Projects
Extra Project Data project documentation: - the project file as such CAD drawings product specific documentation installation manuals ETS4 offers the possibility to add this information to the project Via a dialog files can be added, deleted or extracted (viewing) to the ETS4 project Possibility to add not ETS-related data (files) to projects: CAD drawings product specific documentation installation manuals
10
Improvements: Projects
Improved Project Logging documentation is, independent from its size, an important aspect of any project it’s only logical that ETS offers the possibility to add detailed descriptions to the project log this function has in ETS4 been improved: better structure: a separate heading description and (corresponding) content project log entries have been extended with their specific Titles project log entries also indicate the user (DB = central repository) this allows better structured project descriptions (sort by title)
11
Improvements: Projects
Free Group Address Structure 2 and 3 level group addresses are well known from ETS2/ETS3 for rather complex and/or big project, 2/3 levels are simply not sufficient with ETS4 it’s possible to define your own group address structures, moreover ETS4 allows the use of the entire 16 bit group address range - in ETS3 this is only possible via a specific registry entry (standard = 15 bit) classic = 2 and 3 level Group Address structures this is for complex and/or big projects not always sufficient with ETS4 project specific Group Address structures can be defined
12
Further Improvements Bus Access
• Parallel download for, via IP connected Twisted Pair segments • Bus access also available in the free of charge ETS4 DEMO User interface • License overview directly available in main view, right after launch • KNX News, also available in main view (can of course be disabled) • Updated search & filter functions (e.g. product catalogue/finder, …) Project editor/ analysis • Updated „To Do“ list concept • Dedicated folder for “recently used” products • More powerful and configurable filter & record functions (bus/gr. monitor) Project documentation • Size of project export files has been reduced significantly • Single device report possible Automatic Updates Test ETS4
13
ETS4 Requirements
14
ETS4 Requirements Operating System: MS Windows:
XP (min. SP3), Vista (min. SP2), 7, 2003 (min. SP2) / 2008 Server For all: both 32-bit and 64-bit are supported Hardware: RAM: ≥ 2 GB HDD: > 5 GB (ETS4 setup = ~ 450MB) CPU: ≥ 2 GHz Screen Resolution: ≥ 1024x768 (Multi Monitor Support) USB Slot: for possible dongle Recommended: ≥ 4GB RAM + higher screen resolution
15
ETS4 Licensing
16
ETS4 Licensing All ETS3 dongles are supported by ETS4
The ETS4 installation does not remove the ETS3 installation, license or data Moreover, ETS3 and ETS4 can be used in parallel with the same dongle Upgrade from ETS3 to ETS4 means however that the ETS3 license will disappear from the KNX online shop account
17
ETS4 Licensing ETS4 Licensing Dialog Available Licenses Install
Available licenses: select the license you like to investigate Details: in ETS3 this is information is not shown, only visible when opening the license file (with e.g. Notepad) Licensed Functions & Limitations: this makes it directly clear to the user what kind of license has been installed Available dongles: select the dongle you which to license the software for, then copy into KNX online shop account Host-ID: copy into KNX online shop account Install license: to select the license file as download from the KNX online shop Uninstall license: removes a license, e.g. dongle forwarded to a colleague Open license folder: very useful in case of license problems (support)
