Research and write official Marine Corps history Provide reference and research assistance Support Marine Corps PME Preserve personal experiences and observations through oral history interviews Deploy field historians to capture memories and impressions while fresh Work in tandem with National Museum of the Marine Corps (NMMC)

Provide historical research and reference services to the Marine Corps, other military or government organizations and the public Historical analysis CMC trip books General officer and Congressional inquiries Supports CMC directed programs Unit Lineage and Honors Streamer authorizations Commemorative Naming

HISTORY DIVISION Archives Branch
Receives, processes and stores Marine Corps command chronologies after 25 years official records are retired to NARA Personal papers collections of famous Marines Support retired Marines with VA requests for verification of accidents and other major incidents Large collection of maps and rare documents

HISTORY DIVISION Histories Branch
Records the Marine Corps official institutional and operational history Writes official publications, articles, papers and monographs Coordinates with Oral History section to obtain, catalog, transcribe and preserve personal narratives of historic value Oral history catalogs and tracks the entire Oral History collection; coordinates with interview subjects to edit, finalize and transcribe interviews

Deploys Reserve Component Marines to collect oral histories from deployed Marine Corps units Changes of funding methods makes immediate deployments for historical collection problematic Still able to provide support on short notice; Marines are ready to deploy Target returning units for interviews before unit break up Prior to deployment, coordinates with NMMC for artifact identification and acquisition Supports Division as directed

HISTORY DIVISION Editing and Design
In-house branch to edit manuscripts produced by all authors Senior Editor supervises the content and theme of the Marine Corps University Journal Chairs Marine Corps History editorial board Performs all design and layout work on all publications including maps, illustrations and other graphics Supports internal MCU printing and graphics requirements
