ELA CCSS Coach Danielle D’Andrea-K teacher from Wolfpit-started 4/29/13 Sec. CCSS Coach-Math-starting July 1, 2013 SDE meeting 4/19/13 Funding for not finalized Biennial budget-carryover + new year allocation Funds to be used for: Teacher/Leader Evaluation Turning around lowest performing schools CCSS/Curriculum, Instruction, Assessment TIME Collaborative SRBI Highlights: Coherence, Alignment, Effectiveness, Results Strategies need to sit in a system of support New 5 Step District Diagnostic to see what is really working Alliance Application being released in May

Additional Information from Alliance Districts Meeting April 19, 2013
Brian Mahoney – explained that districts will receive “biennial funding” – “town cannot reduce MBR because of Alliance funding” SDE Talent Office – state adopted 6 principles for education preparation programs – posted on the state website and working with universities and higher education to implement them Bob Villanova – CT Center for School Change – LEAD CT – leadership preparation program with New Leaders Modules – more details at meeting for Superintendents in May 2013 Dianna Roberge-Wentzell – Chief Academic Officer – introduced former superintendent from Milwaukee who described how to consolidate improvement initiatives into a coherent plan with a clear vision and a moral purpose (elevator speech)

mClass Reading 3D Early Literacy Assessment for K-3 PreK to K -3 Vertical and Horizontal Alignment Middle of Year Assessment completed End of Year Assessment starting April 29 Early Literacy Training & Assessment Facilitator Jane Wilkins-5th grade teacher at Marvin-started 4/22/13 Parents As Teachers Early Literacy Facilitator- Finalist to start in June 2013 Part-time Program Asst. Karen Bartron-formerly worked in Ridgefield PS, currently assisting part time in Newtown PS-started 4/24/13 Literacy HOW coaches supporting teachers in schools Evaluation Design developed with Nick Gage, UCONN, to determine the impact of tiered support through PAT, Child FIRST and mClass Reading 3D Professional Development includes training in early literacy and language development as well as coaching/mentoring in district PreK classrooms as well as community-based preschools Demonstration Site under development at Fox Run

Briggs Commissioner’s Network Grant Mission: Briggs High School will serve students who excel in an alternative learning environment by creating and sustaining a small, respectful learning community through high academic expectations, wraparound support services and a network of family, business and community partnerships. Goals: Increase academic performance as measured by Student Performance Index in reading Expand engagement and participation in school as measured by absences/tardies Increase number of students who graduate college and career-ready as measured by PSAT and SAT Turnaround Committee Public Meetings all posted on website Community Forum – May 2, to 6:30 pm Final DRAFT due to SDE May 3, 2013 Continued refinements until State BOE approval in early June 2013 Turnaround Plan implementation to begin July 1, 2013
