1 Math Journal Notes Unit 1 2017

2 Factor: a whole number that, when multiplied by another whole number,
Date _______9/14___________________ Vocabulary to Know Factor: a whole number that, when multiplied by another whole number, equals a product Product: the result of multiplying two or more numbers. (the answer) (2 x 3 = the 2 and 3 are factors, 6 is the product) Expression: a combination of symbols and signs representing a quantity or operation (such as 8 + 3) (the problem part only) Equation:  a statement that two expressions are equal (such as = 11) (the problem part AND the answer)

3 when multiplied together. The multiples of 2 are 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, …
Date __________________9/15/17________________ Vocabulary to Know Multiple: a number that is the product a whole number and any other whole number when multiplied together. The multiples of 2 are 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, …

4 Base: the face that a 3D shape stands on ALSO base = length X width
Date __________________9/21/17________________ Vocabulary to Know Base: the face that a 3D shape stands on ALSO base = length X width Face: a flat surface on a 3D shape Dimension: the length, width, OR height of a figure Length x width gives you a 2 dimensional figure (2D) Length x width x height gives you a 3 dimensional figure (3D) 4. Cubic Unit: a unit used to measure volume Cubic centimeter = cm = 1 cm x 1 cm x 1 cm Volume: the total number of cubic units needed to fill a 3D shape ALSO Volume = (Length X Width) X Height Volume = Base X Height Base = length X width 3

5 Congruent: figures that have the same shape AND size
Date __________________9/22/17________________ Vocabulary to Know Prism: a 3D shape with 2 congruent bases that each have 2 or more sides Congruent: figures that have the same shape AND size Rectangular Prism: a 3D shape whose 6 faces are all rectangles TURN IN YOUR MATH HOMEWORK! Date _____________10/16______________ Vocabulary to Know Divide: to split into equal parts or groups. It is "fair sharing“. Repeated subtraction. (9/3 = (9-3) – 3 ) Remainder: a part, number, or quantity that is left over. (10/3= 3 R1) Dividend:  the number divided by another number (10/3= 3 R1) Divisor: the number you divide by (10/3= 3 R1) Quotient:  the result of division; the number of times one quantity is contained in another (10/3= 3 R1)
