Percent Yield
2
Percent Yield = 𝑨𝒄𝒕𝒖𝒂𝒍 𝒀𝒊𝒆𝒍𝒅 𝑻𝒉𝒆𝒐𝒓𝒆𝒕𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒍 𝒀𝒊𝒆𝒍𝒅 X 100
A comparison of the amount of a product you can actually make, versus how much product that your stoichiometry calculations predicted you’d make. To find percent yield of a reaction, use the following equation: Percent Yield = 𝑨𝒄𝒕𝒖𝒂𝒍 𝒀𝒊𝒆𝒍𝒅 𝑻𝒉𝒆𝒐𝒓𝒆𝒕𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒍 𝒀𝒊𝒆𝒍𝒅 X 100
3
Example If your stoichiometry calculation predicted you’d make grams of a compound and you actually made 58.0 grams of that compound, what is your percent yield?
4
Example When 36.8 grams of C6H6 react with an excess of Cl2, the actual yield is grams of C6H5Cl. What is the percent yield of C5H5Cl? C6H Cl2 C6H5Cl HCl [Balanced]
