2 Do Now: Find your seat Open your notebook take out your homework
Sept. 5, “Day A” Module 2  Lesson 1 Do Now: Find your seat Open your notebook take out your homework Put math packet in binder In math packet: complete question 1a and 2a on page 5 Activator

3 I will be able to: use visual models, such as fraction bars So I can: show the quotient of fractions and whole numbers show the connection between them and the multiplication of fractions. Understand where my quotient comes from I will know I got it when I can successfully draw at least 2 models that demonstrate the quotient as a result of the division of a fraction by a whole number in a real world situation independently or with my partners with at least 80% accuracy. 6.NS.A.1

4 Vocabulary Today’s Language Objective
Through the class discussion with their groupmates, students will be able to orally describe and listen to how the quotient is found. Students will be able to read the real world mathematical problems and write their appropriate answers by using mathematical vocabulary. They will show their understanding by working with visuals aids/tools independently, then in a small group to solve the problems. They will be able to complete at least 2 models that will be measured with at least 80% accuracy to be successful. Vocabulary Fractions, part of, whole, Quotient, multiplication, multiply, times, equally, gallons.

5 = 8 gallons 8 gal ÷ 4 bowls = ? gal. per bowl Opening Exercise (pg. 1)
Write a division sentence to solve each problem. 8 gallons of batter are poured equally into 4 bowls. How many gallons of batter are in each bowl? = 2 gallons ? gallons 2 gallons ? gallons 2 gallons ? gallons 2 gallons ? gallons 8 gallons

6  Opening Exercise (pg. 1)
Sept. 5, “Day D” Module 2  Lesson 1 Opening Exercise (pg. 1) B Write a multiplication sentence to solve each problem. One fourth of an 8-gallon pail is poured out. How many gallons are poured out? ¼ of 8 gal.= ? gal. was poured out ¼ x 8 gal.= gal. was poured out 2 8-gallon pail ? gallons ? gallons = 4/4 or 1 = 8 gallons division sentence multiplication sentence 8 ÷ 2 = ½ × 8 = 4

7 Let’s see how this works with our activator…

8 Let’s see how this works with our homework…

9 How do you feel? topic.

10 Problem Set #6 (pg. 5 ) Lenox ironed ¼ of the shirts over the weekend. She plans to split the remainder of the work equally over the next 5 evenings. What fraction of the shirts does she have left to iron? 1- ¼ = ¾ 2. What fraction of the shirts will Lenox iron each day after school? ¾ ÷5 =? ¾ ÷5 =3/20

11 Let’s look at it a different way…
¾ ÷5 =? ¾ ÷5 =3/20

12 How do you feel? topic.

13 Let’s do #6 on pg. 4 together…
How can we write this as an equation?
