Partition means split up
The grid method is useful for doing complex multiplications. In the grid method you partition large numbers into parts, usually multiples of 10.

You partition (6x+5) and times by 4. 6x 5 4
6x x 4=24x
5 x 5=20
4(6x+5)=24x + 20
So:
4(6x+5) is 24x+20
