2 Charlie is at the supermarket checkout.
Panic!! Charlie is at the supermarket checkout. He wants to buy eight bottles of cola. They cost 68p each and he has £5. Has he got enough money? He tries to work out the cost in his head..... but there are too many sums. He estimates the cost but it is too close to call. £5 is 500p 68 times 8 is ...erm... Seven 8s are 56, so 70X8 equals 560. Oh dear, that's £5.60

3 He finds a piece of paper and asks for a pen!
60 8 8 60 x 8=480 8 x 8 = 64 = 544 544p = £5.44 Partition means split up The grid method is useful for doing complex multiplications. In the grid method you partition large numbers into parts, usually multiples of 10.

4 The grid method makes it easy to remove or EXPAND brackets in algebra.
To work out 4(6x+5) You partition (6x+5) and times by 4. 6x 5 4 6x x 4=24x 5 x 5=20 4(6x+5)=24x + 20 So: 4(6x+5) is 24x+20

5 Try this: 9(3t+9)= Partition the equation =
