Mobile Workers Can't Disconnect By Dennis McCafferty on 2012-05-30

Mobile workers are finding it more difficult than ever to disconnect from their devices. And the constant checking and sending of messages is causing problems with their spouses, kids and other loved ones, according to the recently released “Mobile Workforce Report” survey from iPass. While work responsibilities remain a driving factor here, many survey participants confess that they're on their smartphones and tablets incessantly for no particularly important reasons. Not surprisingly, these employees admit that their stress levels are on the rise: Six out of 10 U.S. mobile workers say they wake up in the middle of the night, and work pressures are cited as a leading contributor to this problem. "Connectivity is like oxygen for today's mobile workers," says Evan Kaplan, iPass CEO. "While having control over when, where and how one works is a significant benefit in terms of well-being, mobile workers need to manage the unique stressors that an always-connected work life brings." Nearly 1,690 mobile enterprise employees worldwide took part in the research.
