2. The Republic of Altai is one of the subjects of the Russian Federation.

3. The weather The republic has a temperate continental climate.
There are short hot summers and long frosty winters
in the Republic of Altai.

4. The relief of the republic is characterized by high mountains which are separated by broad and deep rivers.

5. The highest mountain is Beluha ( 4506 m.)

6. There are a lot of lakes and rivers in the Republic of Altai
There are a lot of lakes and rivers in the Republic of Altai. The largest rivers are the Katun and the Biya.

7. The fauna of the Altai Republic is represented by 80 species of mammals, 300 species of birds, 44 species of fish, 7 species of reptiles, 2 species of amphibians, and a large group of invertebrates. Many of them are listed as endangered

10. There are more than two thousand species of plants, 200 species are found only in the Altai Mountains. Here grow over 40 species of berries which have a good taste and full of vitamins and antibacterial properties. There are a lot of species of medicinal plants.

14. Politics
The head of government in the Altai Republic is the Head of the Republic, popularly elected for a four-year term. As of 2006, the Head of the Republic is Alexander Vasilyevich Berdnikov, who succeeded Mikhail Lapshin in this post. 

15. The National games “El-Oiyn” – an Altai national sport festival with the participation of all the inhabitants from different districts of Altai.
