1 Course Overview Gaa team fit 2010/11

2 Planning Combination of art and science
Focus of planning is having your players in the optimal condition at the right time To do this we have to remove an element of risk by planning early

3 Training Plan Purpose is to identify the work that needs to be carried out Can be long term: the entire season the next 4/6 weeks

4 Training Year The start of your training is largely dependant upon your teams objectives. For Gaelic football and Hurling teams it normally means Late Jan/Early Feb

5 Information Gathering
Personal details of each player, i.e. address, telephone number, occupation, working and travelling arrangements Objectives for the team Fitness Performance through testing Physio Screening where necessary

6 Equipment Make sure you have enough of the necessary equipment for you to carry out your training programmes Finance, is there financial support for the team to ensure smooth operation for the year

7 Competition Date of main Competitions
Fixture lists including club, school, university and county competitions Competitors Who are they and what were their performances like previously

8 Athlete’s other commitments
School, College, work, part-time jobs etc Family and Partner Hobbies and other sports Time available for training Planned holidays

9 Medical Previous illness and injuries
Current medical conditions, asthma, diabetes Access to medical support Physiotherapy support

10 Training facilities Floodlit Pitch and other running facilities (bad weather) Gym and weight training facilities with appropriate equipment to allow your training programmes to be carried out

11 Previous experience What can be learnt from last season?
Key Questions for your players: How serious are you about your sport? What do you expect from your coach?

12 Periodisation Training Phases normally 8 week blocks January/February
March/April May/June July/August September/October

13 Group Task What are the objective of each phase
- What will be focus of your teams training over these various periods? Give examples of how you would structure training sessions to address these objectives -Types and intensities of training exercises
