Mitosis
2
What is Mitosis Mitosis is the process in which the nucleolus of one cell divides into two nuclei It has 6 phases (interphase, early prophase, late prophase, metaphase, anaphase, telophase/cytokinesis)
3
Interphase Cells prepare to divide Cells DNA is being copied
4
Early prophase The nuclear membrane begins to break down.
The chromosomes are condensed and consisting two sister chromatids. The spindle fibers appear
5
Late prophase The centromere joins each pair of chromatids
The chromatids start to move to the end of the poles
6
Metaphase Chromosomes line up in the middle of the cell
7
Anaphase The spindle fibers separate the chromatids and pull them apart and then turn into individual chromosomes.
8
Telophase/Cytokinesis
Spindle fibers disassemble and the nuclear envelope reforms and changes into the nuclear membrane two new cells form
