Region: Northern Tier Present-day country Turkey and Iran Landforms mountains and plateaus Anatolian Plateau: Western Northern Tier - present-day Turkey peninsula that connects Asia and Europe = Asia Minor Ringed by Pontic and Taurus Mountains Fertile soil and enough rainfall to support farming = large population Ottoman Empire Iranian Plateau Eastern Northern Tier-present-day Iran Ringed by Elburz and Zagros Mountains Most of the region is dry, limited farming = small population Persian Empire
