The class as a whole will have the opportunity to earn tokens for positive behavior. Each day, as I notice the overall class displaying exceptional behavior, I will add tokens to a glass container. Once the container gets filled up, I will reward the class with either a movie, free time to play board games, an ice cream party, pizza party, etc. Students are expected to try their best and work hard. Parents and teachers should have mutual goals and expectations for the students, which is to see each student become successful. The goal of this class is to strengthen communication, critical thinking and problem solving skills. This is a collaborative effort; therefore, I look forward to working with you and your child in making this year successful! Expectations Late work will not be accepted when students are assigned grammar and/or vocabulary homework. Literature Questions will only be accepted one day late for half credit. After that, students will receive a missing assignment. Points will be deducted when writing assignments are turned in late. Consequences Point System Each student will start off every two weeks with 50 participation points. He or she will, however, lose a point each time a classroom rule or expectation is broken. Participation will account for 10% of the student’s overall English Language grade.

6th Grade ELA Mrs. Tina LANGUAGE ARTS GRADES LITERATURE GRADES Grammar Exams: These assessments are used to measure what students know throughout and at the end of each unit. Homework: Homework is an extension of class work. This will include workbook pages, worksheets, and many other assignments. Journal Writing: Students will begin class by answering a writing prompt in their journals. Students will receive a classwork completion grade for their journal entries. Writing: Any writing assignment will count toward their writing grade. These may include assignments given in the Performance Assessment and the handbook. Participation/Efforts: See consequences above. Comprehension Test: Upon completion of a story, students will be given a formal comprehension assessment of the story. Vocabulary Quiz: For every story read, students will be assigned up to 10 vocabulary words which they will be tested on at the end of the story. Students will be responsible to know the part of speech as it was used in the story as well as the definition. They will also be assessed on their ability to apply the word in proper context. Homework: Homework is an extension of class work. This will include reading, workbook pages, worksheets, and many other assignments. Raw Comp.: Each quarter, students will be given 2 to 3 raw comp. assignments to be completed in class. Projects: Throughout the year, students will be assigned various projects that reflect their current unit of study. Technology Chromebooks will be used often. Some class assignments, projects, and/or assessments will be completed digitally through Google Classroom or online via our new Language Arts curriculum. Online access to students’ literature textbooks is available through my.hrw.com. Students are expected to abide by all school digital safety rules and guidelines. ABSENTEE POLICY YES, WE DID SOMETHING IMPORTANT WHILE YOU WERE ABSENT. It is the student’s responsibility to check the Week in Summary or the teacher in order to find any assignments missed. A student has two extra days to turn in any work assigned on a day a student was absent. If a test was administered on a day a student was absent, it must be made up on the first day the student returns. If previously assigned work was due on the day of the absence, the work is due on the first day the student returns.
