What is sin?
Sin, as defined in the original translations of the Bible, means "to miss the mark.“
The mark, is the standard of perfection established by God and evidenced by Jesus. 
Romans 3:23: "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.“

God wants us to recognize our sins.
Even those who have not murdered or committed adultery will find themselves convicted of:
Lying Stealing Hate Pride Lust
Putting other things ahead of God Gossip
Sin in any amount will distance us from God. 

8. The Bible Says:
"If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives" (1 John 1:8-10).

9. How to: Confess sin in prayer
Confession in prayer repairs and renews our relationship with God.
It doesn’t have to be formal, fancy, or formulaic
Confession should be:
Meaningful (from humbled hearts)
Specific not generic (Tell God what you did) Daniel 9:4-19
Acknowledge sin but know that God forgives Psalm 32:5-7
As He forgives us we should forgive others Matthew 6:12

To improve our praying we must improve our serving. If we are serving Him and others, then we will not be praying selfishly.
