Seminar Date : May 24 (Wed) 2017, 15:30 ~ Venue : Research Complex 1 (81615) Speaker : Prof. Kinam Park (Professor of Pharmaceutics & Showalter Distinguished Professor of Biomedical Engineering, Purdue University) Host : Prof. Doo Sung Lee (School of Chemical Engineering, SKKU) Title : A Scientist’s Life: Creating Your Own Future Abstract Everybody wants to have a successful career and successful life. But what is exactly success? One philosophical definition is to achieve the goals of each individual. Then, what can be the goals of scientists? One way of finding out the answer is to peek into the minds of great scientists, such as Galileo Galilei, Isaac Newton, Charles Darwin, Albert Einstein, and Nikola Tesla. All of them had the obsessive curiosity for the problems at hand. They, as all scientists, made many mistakes, but what makes them different is that they made the most mistakes in the shortest period of time. One important tenet of all of them is that they had the right problems to solve. In the drug delivery field, scientists choose research topics that pique their heartfelt interest. We all have many successes, mistakes, and failures, and they collectively provided a platform to think creatively, sometimes against prevailing dogmas. The future of drug delivery technologies is promising and ours to build. The future of the drug delivery field, and science as a whole, depends on the young scientists. It is critical to nurture them to have an enlightened mindset for embracing a paradox and non-conformist views. This takes concerted efforts of all of us to understand the current situation, recognize difficulties, and respect different opinions.
