KanCare History: Started on Five-year demonstration program approved by Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Current extension expires on Working with CMS to negotiate standard terms and conditions to start on Our Mission: To protect and improve the health and environment of all Kansans.

3 KanCare –The Basics Medicaid and CHIP managed care program:
Serves members through a coordinated approach The state contracts with Managed Care Organizations (MCOs). Current MCOs – Amerigroup, Sunflower and United HealthCare MCOs contract with Indian Health Services Result - more efficient and effective provision of health care services Our Mission: To protect and improve the health and environment of all Kansans.

Tribal members may participate in KanCare or receive Medicaid benefits through Fee For Service(FFS) Medicaid benefits are the same in KanCare and FFS as noted in the approved KS Medicaid State Plan In KanCare, MCOs offer value added services over and above the Medicaid State Plan – depending on the MCO, some examples are: Dental for Adults Weight Watcher memberships Our Mission: To protect and improve the health and environment of all Kansans.

5 KanCare – Tribal Involvement
State schedules quarterly tribal meetings for input regarding State Plan Amendments, and waiver amendments Tribal nations are given 30 days to provide input In person consultation may be requested at any time regarding proposed changes Our Mission: To protect and improve the health and environment of all Kansans.

6 KanCare 1115 Waiver Hypotheses -January 1, 2019
Value based reimbursement models will further integrate physical and behavioral health services Increasing employment / independent living supports will help people become more independent Our Mission: To protect and improve the health and environment of all Kansans.

Use of telehealth will enhance access to care in rural, semi-rural and underserved areas Removing payment barriers for services provided in Institutions for Mental Disease (IMDs) for KanCare members will result in improved member access to mental health and substance use disorder (SUD) treatment services. Our Mission: To protect and improve the health and environment of all Kansans.
