1 Well Repair Installation of Well Liners
Grouting off poor water producing areas Modifying and Upgrading Well Heads Unique Design Build Projects

2 Consider all the Costs of a New Well
Making repairs to a well is often the best option vs. drilling & constructing a new well Consider all the Costs of a New Well Testing and Drilling Modifying piping and infrastructure for new well Modifying Permit to Take Water and C of A Associated Engineering Costs Abandoning the old well Time It’s going to take time to do all this, repairing almost always less time intensive

3 Well Casings and Screens Corrode Over Time
Example of well casing with holes in it

4 Other examples of casing failure

6 By lining the well with a new steel well casing
How do we repair this? By lining the well with a new steel well casing

7 General Liner Installation Procedure
Step 1 Install liner Step 2 Install temporary packer Step 3 Fill space between liner and old well casing with grout Step 4 Remove Packer

8 Attaching Liner to Crane

9 Installing Grout Lines
We can use grouting lines as small as 3/8” which allows us to install a relatively large diameter liner and keeps the functional diameter of the well at a maximum which allows more pump options. We can usually line a well with 50mm smaller nominal diameter liner than the original casing.

10 We usually use stainless steel for long life

11 Lifting the stainless steel liner

12 To install the liner we need the same amount of room as installing a pump

13 Liner Installation

14 The process takes about a week to complete

15 Joining two pieces of liner

16 Joining two pieces of liner

17 All casing welds made by certified welders

18 All casing welds made by certified welders

19 40m of Schedule 10 304 SS in place and ready for inspection and packer installation

20 But first we take a look with the camera to make sure everything is in the right place

21 Camera Uses We use the camera several times in the process
during grout line installation during the grouting process upon completion to make sure the liner was installed as designed

22 Next we install the packer to seal the annular space at the base of the liner

23 We have sliding head packers that can line a well up to 24” in diameter

24 Packer Installation

25 Packer Installation The packer being installed on steel pipe that goes all the way through the packer so we can inspect the base of the liner during grouting to check for leaks

26 Packer installed and ready for grouting

27 Progressive cavity high pressure grout pump and tandem mixer
Allows us to grout through small grout lines

28 Custom Grouting Special formulated grouts have been specifically designed for Lotowater by a grouting engineer and expert in the grouting field. Custom grouts are often designed for unusual or difficult conditions. Special grouts allow us to grout through small lines

29 A new well with liner, good for another 50 years?

30 Well Head Upgrades & Designs

31 Sometimes wells need to be upgraded to keep up with new regulations
In this case, a new pitless adapter was installed Wellhead not in compliance with new regulations New well head in compliance with MOE well regulations

32 Sometimes we need to go back to the drawing board
Well head is under here, taking water levels from this well was virtually impossible, let alone removing the pump

33 For a well guy this is a real pain

34 Well Head Design We start with a plan

35 We end up with something much better and much more practical

36 Having an experienced contractor help with wellhead design maximizes functionality

37 Unique Design Build Projects
We often team up with engineering consulting companies on projects where wells are an integral component Our experience and knowledge is useful in coming up with functional and economic alternatives for wells

38 Well 2 in building Well head was in flood plain and susceptible to flooding

39 Well was also flowing artesian so special considerations had to be made to control the flow

40 We worked with the engineer on the project and came up with this design

41 Putting in a new custom design pitless adapter

42 The well head is above the 100 year flood level and meets all regulations

43 Upgrade Benefits No more worrying about: Flooding Heating a building
Accessing the well for service

44 As constructed and working great
