5th GRADE EXPECTATIONS Be ready and focused on the tasks at hand each day. Be positive, respectful, and courteous to others. Exemplify leadership for others to model. Report to class on time daily. Return homework/projects/class work on time when it is due. Learn and grow into brilliant minds. FIFTH GRADERS ARE FABULOUS!

YOUR 5TH GRADER WILL ENGAGE IN… Understanding conventions of standard English Identifying author’s purpose, voice, explain how it impacts the reading and writing experience Quoting accurately from a text and make inferences Drawing information from multiple sources on the same topic Writing different types of texts for various purposes (narrative, informational, and opinion pieces) How to conduct short research projects that build knowledge about a topic

9 CLASS DOJO Class Dojo’s mission is to reinvent classrooms by bringing teachers, students and parents closer together. Teachers and Parents use Class Dojo as a communication platform to encourage students, and get parents engaged. This electronic platform also allows students to share slide show stories with their parents by posting photos and clips for parents to view and for students to explain as a presentation. Class Dojo provides behavior reports in real time. Parents are able to view and/or communicate (when possible) to inquire about student productivity.

10 ARE’s Discipline Plan Safe Organized Accountable Respectful
When positive behaviors are noticed throughout the building, faculty and staff will give the student’s SOAR card a hole punch. Students meeting the required number of punches at the end of the week will be rewarded with a treat. Routines and rituals will be taught and followed daily to build a positive learning environment. However, if students do not follow the classroom rules, the following steps will be taken:   Verbal Warning Dojo points deducted Opportunity room Contact parent Office Referral EXTREME BEHAVIOR IS IMMEDIATELY REFERRED TO ADMINISTRATION

11 ATTTENDANCE Students MUST be in class by 7:45 to be marked present.
Students arriving after 7:45 must be brought into the front office for check-in by parent/guardian. If there is a change in transportation a signed note from the parent must be provided or teachers will follow the original transportation routine for your child.

12 STUDENT AGENDAS How do they work?
Students use them to record their homework assignments everyday. Parents to confirm your child’s assignments. Things to Look for in the agenda: Your child’s homework assignment daily. Student written reminders

13 MAP MAP is an adaptive assessment taken on the computer. This means that each student gets a unique set of test questions based on responses to previous questions As the student answers correctly, the questions get harder. If the students answers incorrectly, the questions get easier. Used to measure individual achievement levels at different times of the school year.

Participate in the UGA extension 4-H program. compose an essay and create a visual project related to the career path of his/her interest. Opportunity for students to began the exploration of the kind of dedication and hard work it takes to be successful in the careers that they wish to pursue. Portfolio Requirements and Project Rubrics will be distributed later. Students will begin this assignment in class. Some components will need to be completed at home.
