1 Do First What happens when you are riding in a car and the driver suddenly slams on the brakes?

2 Inertia & Newton’s First!

3 Inertia Inertia: The tendency of an object to resist change in motion
A bowling ball that is rolling at 3m/s takes more force to stop than a tennis ball rolling at 3m/s. Thus, we can say an object that has more mass has a [ higher / lower ] inertia.

4 NEWTON'S FIRST LAW

5 Pre-Questions Suppose you have a bowl of water (nearly full) on the table and you push the bowl to slide it across the table. What happens to the water inside the bowl? Suppose you are carrying a bowl of water (nearly full) at a constant speed and all of a sudden you come to a complete stop. What happens to the water inside the bowl? When the bowl came to a stop, what did the water want to keep doing?

6 Newton’s First Law An object in motion wants to stay in motion, and an object at rest wants to stay at rest until acted upon by an outside force.

Think back to your roller coaster… What forces were acting on the marble? How was the marble able to complete the loop? Explain using Newton’s First Law
