6 The Mullet Equation Business Come up with an EQUATION using business and Party to compare and rank the mulletudeness of Different mullets. Party Ask students to share their equations, perhaps make a list of them.

7 Use your equation to compare the following mullets

8 Which is more mullet-y? 6 mustaches 7 dreamy eyes 71 mustaches

9 Which is more mullet-y? 0.6 feet 113 mm 0.89 feet 412 mm

10 Which is more mullet-y? Round to the nearest tenth
30 fake-bakes 5 slamdunks 200 fake-bakes 33 slamdunks Last slide before deciding as a class on the best equation. Should arrive at ratio Round to the nearest tenth Round to the nearest tenth

12 Which is more mullet-y? P B = P B = 6 mustaches 7 dreamy eyes
7: If a student started asking "What's this have to do with Math?" or "Can we rank them somehow?", then this slide flows naturally, if not, then Teacher provides the transition. Walk the whole class through calculating the "hot guy" ratio together. P B = P B =

13 Which is more mullet-y? P B = P B = 0.6 feet 113 mm 0.89 feet 412 mm
8-10. I divide the class in half and assign them ratios to check. Toward the end, they become proficient enough to do both. P B = P B =

25 Mulletchamp The "Mullet Champions" slide has no measurements, so students can come measure it themselves.

26 Slide #3: Introduce and emphasize terms "business" and "party"
4-6: Just arguing, but respectfully and one person at a time. The point here is practicing the terminology. Classroom management is most important here. 8: If a student started asking "What's this have to do with Math?" or "Can we rank them somehow?", then this slide flows naturally, if not, then Teacher provides the transition. Walk the whole class through calculating the "hot guy" ratio together. 9-11. I divide the class in half and assign them ratios to check. Toward the end, they become proficient enough to do both. 13-22: Gallery Walk – post those printed slides around the room. If you want students to measure, delete the numbers first and give them pipe cleaners and a ruler. 24 – 31: If you choose not to do the Gallery Walk, you can go through these slides as a class. Ask questions to connect the concrete math (measurements and ratios) to more abstract thought (What if I changed the party? What if I shaved off all the business?) 32. The "Mullet Champions" slide has no measurements, so students can come measure it themselves. Students who finish the Gallery Walk early can start on slides 30 and 31. I recommend adding some non-white, non-dudes. Here’s a folder full of mullet pics.
