2 Lab Safety Rules Be responsible!

3 Use Your Head 1. Horseplay, running, pushing, shoving, and practical jokes will not be tolerated.

4 Use Your Head 2. NO experiments may be performed which have not been authorized by the instructor.

6 Use Your Head ONLY use the materials / equipment provided by the instructor in class. KNOW the proper names / sizes of all glassware and/or equipment.

7 Carry microscopes properly

8 Use Your Head FOLLOW DIRECTIONS! If you aren’t sure ask the teacher.

8. Continued: Never taste, smell, or touch chemicals unless specifically instructed to do so. When you smell a chemical WAFT

11 9. Protect Yourself You MUST wear safety goggles when working with chemicals, heat, or glassware Otherwise you end up like this guy

12 Protect Yourself Eye Safety
In case of emergency in which a chemical goes into one’s eye, use the eyewash station Flush in water for 15 mins. and notify the teacher

13 If you get a chemical on your hands, wash them immediately!
9. Protect Yourself Don’t touch face. Wash hands after every lab. If you get a chemical on your hands, wash them immediately!

14 Broken Glass procedure
Tell me Immediately! Don’t touch it with your bare hands. It has to go in the Broken Glass Box.

15 10. In case of emergency… Know the locations of: fire extinguisher
fire blanket shower eyewash station first aid kit

16 Know the Fire Drill and where to get help fast.
Stay together. Go to the front lawn and line up as a class.

17 11. Protect Yourself: Proper Attire
Keep all long hair tied back Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry that could catch on fire Footwear that completely covers the foot is required

18 12. Be careful when working with flames and hot plates

19 13. Properly dispose of waste.

20 14. TAKE only necessary materials to your lab station to avoid damage.
15. DO NOT open the chemical storage units without permission from instructor.

21 16. REPORT any problems with equipment to the instructor immediately.

22 17. Keep it clutter free    STAY and work in your assigned group. DO NOT distract other groups from their work. AFTER each lab, wash all equipment, desktops/ lab tables and clean the floor of any debris.

23 20. Remember to… USE COMMON SENSE. Use caution when carrying laboratory equipment to / from the lab stations. BE AWARE of what is going on around you.
