1 THE BOOK OF JAMES Lesson 4 Chapter 1 vss. 5-8

2 The Path to Wisdom James 1:5–8 (NASB95) But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind. For that man ought not to expect that he will receive anything from the Lord, being a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

3 The Path to Wisdom-Knowing God
But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

4 The Path to Wisdom-Knowing God
James 1:16–18 (NASB95) Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren. Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow. In the exercise of His will He brought us forth by the word of truth, so that we would be a kind of first fruits among His creatures.

5 The Path to Wisdom-Knowing God
James 4:3–5 (NASB95) You ask and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures. You adulteresses, do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. Or do you think that the Scripture speaks to no purpose: “He jealously desires the Spirit which He has made to dwell in us”?

6 The Path to Wisdom-How it is delivered
But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

7 The Path to Wisdom-How it is delivered
Generously = single minded, sincerely, without ulterior motive (Used only here in scriptures) Luke 11:34 (NASB95) “The eye is the lamp of your body; when your eye is clear, your whole body also is full of light; but when it is bad, your body also is full of darkness.

8 The Path to Wisdom-How it is delivered
Reproach = to disgrace or shame, make to feel unworthy or an outcast Psalm 69:19–21 (NASB95) You know my reproach and my shame and my dishonor; All my adversaries are before You. Reproach has broken my heart and I am so sick. And I looked for sympathy, but there was none, and for comforters, but I found none. They also gave me gall for my food and for my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.

9 The Path to Wisdom- How it is Received
But he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind.

10 The Path to Wisdom- How it is Received
Hebrews 11:6 (NASB95) And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.

11 The Path to Wisdom- How it is Received
Matthew 7:11 (NASB95) “If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him!

12 The Path to Wisdom-BLOCKED
For that man ought not to expect that he will receive anything from the Lord, being a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

13 The Path to Wisdom-BLOCKED
James 4:3 (NASB95) You ask and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures.

14 The Path to Wisdom-Exemplified
1 Timothy 1:16–19 (NASB95) Yet for this reason I found mercy, so that in me as the foremost, Jesus Christ might demonstrate His perfect patience as an example for those who would believe in Him for eternal life. Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen. This command I entrust to you, Timothy, my son, in accordance with the prophecies previously made concerning you, that by them you fight the good fight, keeping faith and a good conscience, which some have rejected and suffered shipwreck in regard to their faith.
