You can use pictures to add visual interest to a presentation. Some templates include slide layouts with placeholders for both pictures and text. The pictures can come from many sources, such as photos you have taken and stored on your computer, and you can also get pictures for your presentation by searching for them on the Internet. You should note that some pictures found on the Internet may not be used without permission or license from the creator. This figure shows a slide with two picture placeholders and a placeholder for textual content. Copyright © 2017 Pearson Education, Inc.

13 Create a Presentation in Outline View
Outline pane An outline organizes text by using a hierarchy containing main points and subpoints to indicate the levels of importance of the text. An outline is the fastest way for you to enter or edit text for a presentation. To change to Outline view, click the View tab, and click Outline View in the Presentation Views group. In Outline view, each slide is denoted by a slide number and a slide icon, followed by the slide title if the slide contains a title placeholder, and the slide text indented under the slide title. This figure shows a presentation in Outline view, where you can clearly see the hierarchy of the text on the slides in the Outline pane. Copyright © 2017 Pearson Education, Inc.

Outline displayed in collapsed view Because Outline View shows the overall structure of a presentation, it can be used to move bullets or slides until the outline’s organization is perfected. The view of the outline can be collapsed or expanded to display the slide contents or just slide titles. The collapsed Outline View displays only slide icons and the titles of the slides, whereas the expanded Outline View displays the slide icon, the title, and the slide contents. The figure show the outline in collapsed view so only the slide number, icon, and title are shown. Note the lines under the slide titles, which indicate that there are additional levels, but they are not displayed. Copyright © 2017 Pearson Education, Inc.

Import an Outline Importing an Outline Rich Text Format (.rtf) Plain text format (.txt) Outlines that you create using Outline View in Microsoft Word can be imported into a PowerPoint presentation. When saving a Word document, you save it in the Rich Text Format (.rtf). This is a universal format that preserves the formatting of a document and can be used to import files to and from Mac and Windows platforms. There are some problems when importing an .rtf file, so you may want to import a plain text file, which has the .txt extension. Because the plain text format does not preserve formatting, each line of an outline becomes a separate slide. Copyright © 2017 Pearson Education, Inc.
