Stage 3 The United States and United Nations sided with South Korea after Communist North Korea invaded South Korea. N. Korea took over the capital of Seoul.

Stage 2 1950 South Korean and United States troops organized under the United Nations. Chinese troops began attacking U.N. troops. 120,000 Chinese soldiers surrounded 14,000 U.N. soldiers. U.S. forces regained control of Seoul.

Stage 4 1951 Chinese captured Seoul.
3 months later, the U.N. reclaimed Seoul. General Douglas MacArthur dismissed by President Harry S. Truman.

Stage 5 1951 2 years of massive artillery fights around the 38th parallel. Infantry struggles over small pieces of land. Peace negotiations took place. No hope of ending the war.

Stage 6 1952 Peace talks deadlocked. 1953
Agreement signed to continue the division of Korea at the 38th parallel.
