2 This is just one statue in the ancient city of Sukhothai
This is just one statue in the ancient city of Sukhothai. It is one of my favorite places I visited while in Thailand. Sukhothai

3 CLAIM EVIDENCE Sukhothai should be one of the Wonders of the World because it is incredibly unique. It has one of the second to largest standing Buddha statues in the world, and each is walled in tightly on all sides. I want to argue that Sukhothai should be a Wonder of the World. Here is one of my claims with its evidence. However, it needs something extra. Some people might not understand WHY I think this evidence proves my claim. Turn to the next slide to see how I hook them together.

4 WARRANT CLAIM EVIDENCE
Sukhothai should be one of the Wonders of the World because it is incredibly unique. It has one of the second to largest standing Buddha statues in the world, and each is walled in tightly on all sides. WARRANT While other temples have larger Buddhas, no temple has Buddhas so large that are encased in such close structures. It creates an astonishing and unique effect that emphasizes the size of the statue, and forces you to be at its feet if you want to see it. This is a Warrant. It works like a carabiner and hooks my claim and evidence together. See how the warrant uses words from both the claim and the evidence to write its sentences? That’s all it does. It shows you that that kind of Buddha statue really is unique.

5 Sukhothai should be one of the Wonders of the World because it is incredibly unique. It has one of the second to largest standing Buddha statues in the world, and each is walled in tightly on all sides. While other temples have larger Buddhas, no temple has Buddhas so large that are encased in such close structures. It creates an astonishing and unique effect that emphasizes the size of the statue, and forces you to be at its feet if you want to see it. Here is how it all fits together in a paragraph. See how juicy that paragraph is?

6 WARRANT CLAIM EVIDENCE
Sukhothai should be one of the Wonders of the World because it had a meaningful purpose. It was used as a Buddhist temple for over a century. WARRANT Your turn! Write a Warrant for this claim and evidence. Now it’s your turn. Read the claim and the evidence. Now, in your Class Notes, write a warrant that hooks the claim and evidence together.
