The Supremacy of God in Missions through Worship
3 The Supremacy of God in Missions through Worship
2
Introduction Worship is the ultimate goal of the church, not missions
Worship is the goal in missions Worship is the fuel in missions God’s glory must take precedence over man’s good Passion for God leads to zeal for missions
3
Is our Worship Adequate?
John Piper points to the universe’ vastness as an indicator of God’s greatness. The Milky Way: 100,000 lightyears across Within optical range: 1,000,000 similar galaxies The Bible references this greatness: Is.40:25-26, Job 26:14, Ps. 57:5 In what ways are we at risk of making worship unworthy of God’s awesome greatness?
4
Missions, the second greatest activity of the church
William Carey was sustained by his vision of the God the triumphant God’s greatness will sustain you when your sense of duty wains
5
God’s Passion for God God’s ultimate goal is worship of Himself
Missions is the overflow of God’s delight in being God

He created us for his glory – Is. 43:6-7 He called Israel for his glory – Is.49:3, Jer.13:11 He spared Israel in the wilderness – Ez.20:14 Israel gained victory in Canaan – II Sam.7:23 He did not cast away Israel – I Sam.12:20-22

Jesus and God’s Glory Jesus sought God’s glory in everything – Jn 7:18
He told us to do good for God’s glory – Mt.5:15 He endured to the end – Jn 12:27-28, Jn 17:1 The Holy Spirit glorifies the Son Jn 16:14
9
God’s Glory and Us Do everything for His glory – I Cor.10:31
Serve in a way that brings Him glory – I Pet.4:11 He plans to fill the earth with the knowledge of His glory – Hab. 2:14 Everything that happens will redound to God’s glory – Rom 11:36
10
Man belittles God’s glory
We deny, by nature, that God should be the focus of our affections We exalt ourselves or some object in our world to the level of being worthy of worship We are dead in sin and destined for hell The Bible assumes that hell is the just end of all who deny God’s worth to be worshipped
11
Satisfaction in God God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in Him He desires me to be satisfied in His glory Example of the hospital visit: “I am here because it is my duty” vs. “I am here because I delight in visiting you”
12
God exalted in Mercy The glory God seeks to magnify is ultimately the glory of his mercy – Rm.15:8-9 Zeal for the glory of God motivates world missions A servant spirit and a heart of mercy motivate world missions
13
Summary: The Power of Missions is Worship
14
Waiting on God He works for those who wait on Him – Is.64:4
He does not need the nations to work for him Jesus came to serve – Mk 10:45
15
Sharing His message The root message we take to the nations is “Rejoice and be glad that the Lord reigns on high” Why is that a hopeful message? Why do we go? For Christ’s name’s sake Mt.19:23 Rm.1:5
16
The Call of God To be a people whose theme is the supremacy of God in all of life. The magnificence of the missionary call must be rooted in our perception of the magnificence of Christ
