Map Analysis Protocol Level 1 : Title and Location of Map Level 2: Type of map ( describe the type of map as well as the aggregation) Level 3: Pattern ID: what patterns do you notice on the map? Level 4: Why does the pattern exist? How did it get there?
2
Map Analysis Protocol SOP for analyzing maps throughout the year
Offers a way to critically analyze maps

PUT YOUR NAMES ON YOUR HOMEWORK!!!!!!!!

Figure: 01-10l Title: Regional differences in 2004 U.S. presidential election. Caption: Left: the winner by county. Although Kerry won 48 percent of the votes nationally, the county map shows that Kerry's voters were clustered in about one-sixth of the country's land area (including big cities), whereas Bush's voters were dispersed across a much more extensive land area (including sparsely settled rural areas). Bush won 60 percent of the rural vote, whereas Kerry carried 60 percent of the big city vote.

Figure: 01-17 Title: Globalization of economy. Caption: Denso, a transnational corporation that makes parts for cars, such as heaters and air conditioners, has its world headquarters, research labs, and eight factories in its 'hometown' of Nagoya, Japan. Regional headquarters are located in the world's two other core regions–North America and Western Europe–the company's main overseas markets. A financial center is located in the Netherlands. Factories and sales centers are located in a number of more developed and less developed countries.

9
Features of distribution
Density – Concentration – What is the difference in density and concentration of the last two maps of baseball teams?
10
Diffusion Relocation Hierarchical Contagious
Stimulus – example – P.C. using idea of clicking on an icon (originally used by Macs)
11
Skills Practice – Comparative Relationships (20-23)
Write one sentence describing how each type of diffusion is similar.
12
Assignment Pair up with someone next to you (no more than 3) and come up with three examples of each type of diffusion. Do not use examples from your text book. Consider how each type of diffusion has affected you individually. In other words, how is diffusion responsible for something you own, enjoy, or is part of your culture? Be prepared to share your lists.
13
Coordinates Analyze density, concentration, and pattern of the following coordinates. 33.9N, W 33.75N, W How do the following coordinates display globalization and diffusion? 33.434S, W 1.345S, E 26.093N, E 40.01 N, E 47.985N, 11.51E
