Christy Stegemoller- English Trisha Beckman- Math Randy Ross- U.S. History Justin Baird- Science Welcome to Team Thunder We are excited about a successful school year with your child. Thank you for joining us this evening.

2 English Mrs. Christy Stegemoller Room 222
Ext. 2498 Fifth year at Brownsburg West Middle School, but in my Seventh year teaching. Originally from a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio. Taught for two years in an urban setting in downtown Columbus, Ohio. Attended Wittenberg University. Majored in English and Education.

3 English Goals for the Improve your student’s writing skills through the use of the 6+1 Traits of Writing. Build reading comprehension and analysis of fiction and non-fiction texts. Foster an appreciation of literature and reading in each of your students.

4 English Curriculum General Education Novels: Wonder by J.R Palacio, Hitler Youth by Susan Campbell Bartoletti, Night, Elie Wiesel, and The Miracle Worker by William Gibson. High Ability Novels: And Then There Were None, by Agatha Christie, Night, Elie Wiesel, Flowers for Algernon, by Daniel Keyes, and Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury Various short stories, articles, and poems. Independent Reading Projects (1 per quarter). Various writing papers and assignments to build on narrative, expository, and argumentative writing skills

5 Mathematics Trisha Beckman Room 223 Ext. 2499
This is my 12th year of teaching and 9th here at Brownsburg West.  I have also taught at a high school in North Carolina and Decatur Middle School, here in Indianapolis.  My husband is also a teacher at East Middle School.  He teaches 8th grade U.S. History.  In my spare time I am usually chasing around my 2 year old son or enjoying the outdoors. 

6 Mathematics Mrs. Beckman teaches Algebra and Geometry. This course will begin with basic skills review needed to be successful in the course, and then move to new material that will prepare the with the foundational skills they will need to be successful at the high school. All students will have: Homework 3-4 nights a week Regular quizzes Unit tests Please sign up for the remind texting service to get reminders for these quizzes and tests. Directions are located in the student’s course syllabus.

7 Social Studies Randy Ross Room 220 Ext. 2496
Mr. Ross originally graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1991 with an Economics Management degree and worked in the business world for 8 years before deciding that he wanted something more rewarding in life.  He decided to return to school at Marian College to achieve a teaching license.  He also received a masters of education from Indiana Wesleyan University a few years later.  Upon completion of his education degree he taught in Pike Township at New Augusta Public Academy for 8 years.  He then moved to Brownsburg West where he has found a true home.

8 Social Studies Mr. Ross has 3 wonderful children all in the Brownsburg school system.  Madison is a senior at BHS and Riley is now a freshman, and Ryder attends 7th grade here at WMS. He and his beautiful wife, Kelli, will celebrate their 22nd wedding anniversary August 10th. Mr. Ross also has the pleasure of being the 8th grade football coach here at West. This is his 8th year as head coach and he continues to enjoy every minute.

9 Science Justin Baird Room 224 Ext. 2500 jbaird@brownsburg.k12.in.us
Mr. Baird grew up in East Central Illinois and has received degrees from Olivet Nazarene University and IUPUI. He is married and dotes on his three beautiful children Elyse, Foster, and Gretchyn. In his free time he likes to hike, bike, run, geocache, play board games and visit his extended families in Ohio and Illinois. Mr. Baird’s current project is attaining world peace.

10 Passport Students should be recording assignments daily in their Passports. This is an excellent place to start if students have missing assignments. “But I don’t have any homework.” -- This is not likely. Check Passport or our webpages. Students should be reading at home daily.

11 Contacting Us Email is the easiest way to contact us.
Voic is also a possibility. We will do our best to get back to you within 24 hours.

12 Make Up Work It is the student’s responsibility to retrieve and complete work missed during the absence. Students will have the number of days absent to make up missed work. Please request make up work for your child by noon for pick up that afternoon. Due to our schedule we may not be able to have the work in the office earlier than about 2:35. It may be possible for some of the work to be ed.

13 Stay Informed Power School is a helpful tool. Please be sure to check it periodically. You can even set it up to you a report or use the smartphone app. Check with the office if you need your login information. If you haven’t received the “This Week…” s, please let us know before you leave.

14 Before you leave… We ask that you please fill out the parent survey form, which will provide us with useful information and will give you an opportunity to sign up for volunteer opportunities.
