SAFE DRIVING
2
Safe driving tips Today, we drive safer cars on safer roads. Years of advertisements and public service announcements have helped make us safer drivers. Most car accidents are the result of human error. The best way to reduce the risk of being involved in an accident is to have safe driving behaviors. Review the basic rules of safe driving and help bring you and your passengers home unharmed.

KEEP YOUR VEHICLE SAFE Vehicle maintenance is very important. Your mechanic can let you know what you need to do to fix any issue. One of the most common maintenance problems that can lead to a crash is improper tire pressure. Tire pressure that is too high or low can impact performance or lead to a blowout. Check your tire pressure against the recommendation in your owner’s manual. Another important area is the vehicle’s brakes. If “softness” in the brake pedal is noticed or a vibration is felt when the brakes are being applied, it should be checked out by a professional mechanic. Have your vehicle inspected on a routine basis.

PRACTICE DEFENSIVE DRIVING
Maintain a safe distance between you and other vehicles. Don’t speed. Remain calm even when you are in high traffic situations. Accept small delays. Don’t abruptly change lanes. Yield to other cars, even if you have the right of way.

WEAR YOUR SEAT BELT Seat belts save lives! Make sure all passengers are buckled up and children are in safety seats appropriate for their age and size. When a seat belt is worn properly, it can prevent you from being thrown around the inside of a crashing vehicle or thrown out of the vehicle. You have a greater chance of surviving a crash if you are wearing a seat belt. Buckle up!

Don’t Speed Speed is a factor in about one of three fatal crashes.
Research has shown that for every mile per hour you drive, the likelihood of being in an accident increases by four to five percent. The higher the speed, the more the risk increases. Obey posted speed limits. If you really need to get somewhere fast, there is a solution: leave early!
7
AVOID DISTRACTIONS Don’t text and drive!
Don’t use a cell phone when driving. There is no safe way to use a cell phone while driving. Don’t mess with electronic devices, including GPS systems, while the vehicle is in motion. Don’t eat while driving. Limit your passenger interaction. Don’t let your passengers distract you. Keep your eyes on the road & your hands on the wheel!

BE EXTRA CAREFUL IN BAD WEATHER
Be extra cautious when driving through fog, rain, snow or on icy roads. Take all tips and apply them here: *Obey speed limit & drive below the speed limit if necessary *Maintain extra space between you and the car ahead *Be extra careful around curves *Drive defensively and exercise caution *If weather worsens, find a safe place to stay Don’t Take Unnecessary Risks!
