An overview to this point
What methods do I use? An overview to this point
2
One or Two or More Populations?
Is the study comparative in nature or are we making an inference about a single population? If there is a single population then we need decide whether or not we have a numeric or categorical/nominal outcome.
3
Single Population Inference
If the outcome or response is numeric then we use: Hypothesis Tests and CI’s for m
4
Single Population Inference
If the outcome or response is a dichotomous outcome (i.e. Yes/No or Success/Failure) then we use: Hypothesis Tests and CI’s for p
5
Summary of Inference for m
Assuming either the outcome comes from a normally distributed population or if the sample size is sufficiently large. Test Statistic Sample size required for margin of error (E) with Confidence Interval for m 95% confidence
6
Summary of Inference for p
Assuming the sample size n sufficiently large. Test Statistic Sample size required for margin of error (E) with 95% confidence assuming prior value for p Confidence Interval for m Conservative approach
