Authors develop symbolism through the use of multiple literary devices.
Look at this excerpt from the famous play As You Like It by William Shakespeare.
“All the world’s a stage,
And all the men and women merely players;
they have their exits and their entrances;
And one man in his time plays many parts,”
What symbolism do you see?

5. Activity
Now that we have looked at many types of symbols, think of yourself. What represents you?
You will make a name tag
Fold a piece of copy paper in half length wise (hot dog).
Write your name on one side in a color of your choosing.
Draw at least two symbols to represent yourself.
Repeat on the back.
