1 Weather and Weather Factors

2 Weather Factors Weather is the state of atmosphere at a specific time and place. The Earths temperature has increased by 1 degree over the past century.

3 Mr. Fetch's Earth Science Class
What causes weather? The transfer of energy between: - The sun - Earth’s surface - The Atmosphere. Air rises and cools to form clouds Water vapor condenses to from precipitation and releases energy into the atmosphere The sun warms earth’s surface increasing its temperature. Air Air The sun’s energy is used to evaporate water and put moisture into the air. Air Air L H Mr. Fetch's Earth Science Class Unequal heating and differences in air pressure cause wind. m

Temperature A B Temperature and particle motion are related. Mr. Fetch's Earth Science Class Mr. Fetch’s Earth Science Classroom

5 Mr. Fetch's Earth Science Class
Factors that affect temperature Cities are Warmer Mountains are Colder Cloudy days are Cooler Cloudy nights are Warmer Mr. Fetch's Earth Science Class Mr. Fetch’s Earth Science Classroom

6 Mr. Fetch's Earth Science Class
Wind Wind is moving air and is caused by differences in air pressure within our atmosphere. Air under high pressure moves toward areas of low pressure H L We can measure winds with a windsock, weather vain, anemometer and beaufort scale Mr. Fetch's Earth Science Class Mr. Fetch’s Earth Science Classroom
